2 layers of shingles. Moisture trapped inside of insulation is a breeding ground for mold and bacteria. Rotten boards on your roof can lead to leaks and more rot. Wanted to add more cellulose but installer said it would make wet roof worse.

Plywood is original 49 years old. Inner plywood of roof wet. Not wet but some areas slightly damp. A wet roof deck is also a slippery deck.

To gain access to the roof use proper ladders or scaffolding which should also be dry to prevent slips. Rotted boards are the result of moisture reaching the wood. Evidently the source of the dripping water was not a roof leak but condensation of interior moisture under the vapor impermeable tri flex underlayment. The asphalt felt paper under the tri flex left in place during the most recent reroof was wet.

It s a problem that demands immediate attention and there are no quick fixes. Trapped water will boil when the sun heats the roof and the shingles will then have small pits where the. Trapped moisture encourages corrosion of roofing fasteners and rusting of steel studs and wall ties which reduce wind uplift ratings. Wet insulation means trapped moisture that will slowly degrade the entire roofing system from the decking to the building itself.

For safety reasons it is best only to work on the roof when all surfaces are dry. And when we slit the asphalt felt and pulled it back we found roof boards that were soaking wet.
